The Pros And Cons Of Gay Marriage.

Why should gay marriage be banned? Why shouldn't it? These two questions have been circling the web, year after year, day after day and I think we should finally take a stand and make our minds up. So, here I am, right now, at this moment to try and convince all you people out there to choose a side. So....listen to my reasons and choose what side you will be on during the fight for gay rights.

My first reason is that banning gay marriage is depriving someone or a group of people of a life with a family. When reading an article on procon.org, Judge Sarah Zabel said that gay marriage "serves only to hurt, to discriminate, to deprive same-sex couples and their families of equal dignity, to label and treat them as second-class citizens, and to deem them unworthy of participation in one of the fundamental institutions of our society." Though this is true, many people still believe that it should not be allowed. Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton wrote : "marriage has long been a social institution defined by relationships between men and women. So long defined, the tradition is measured in millennia, not centuries or decades. So widely shared, the tradition until recently had been adopted by all governments and major religions of the world."

My second reason will be against gay marriage. Some people believe that gay marriage should not be allowed as when two people of the same sex want to have children, they must adopt or get donors. Another reason people believe that gay marriage should be banned is because they believe that children should not grow up in that type of surrounding. This is because some people think that the saying like parent like child is true. This means that the children will grow up to be gay like their parents and slowly populations will die off. This is not true. A study shown by Paul Yoder a psychiatric technician says that kids usually do not want to end up like their parents due to arguments and such while they are children. As you probably know, you and you mother or father used to have lots of fights, after you would storm off into your room and say that you hate them (Of course you don't mean it) but this hatred forces kids to never want to be like their parents.

My final reason is that gay people should be allowed the same luxuries as other people. Some people think that it has been ancient history and religion as well as tradition for a man and a woman to get married. However, this is not true, according to Brown University political scientist Rose McDermott: “Official unions between same-sex couples, indistinguishable from marriages except for gender, are believed by some scholars to have been common until the 13th Century in many countries, with the ceremonies performed in churches and the union sealed with a kiss between the two parties.”

So what do you think. I personally strongly believe that gay marriage should not be banned but I know that many other people have different views. That is an important thing to remember. If you respect everyone's thoughts and wishes, than the world may be a happier place. If everyone stuck to their own views and respected everyone else’s then there would be no fighting or screaming. Let people be, let them think what they think, let them believe what they believe. But just remember: “Marriage is about love, not gender.”
